Eco-living at Boskloof Eco-Estate

Property Section - Featured Property

Aside from a secure lifestyle and residing amid unspoilt and protected fynbos and endangered Renosterveld, residents in the 51ha Boskloof Eco Estate in Somerset West also enjoy stunning views as far as Table Mountain and the False Bay coastline, say Seeff agents, Rosmarie Bell and Marie Smit.

The estate is also home to free-roaming small buck and other animals and a wealth of bird species and there are walking and cycling trails for residents as well as a small dam for fishing and canoeing. The estate was established 10 years ago, and with the Hottentots-Holland Mountains as a backdrop, residents enjoy a laid-back country lifestyle, without having to forego modern conveniences.

Top class wine estates such as Morgenster and Vergelegen are on the doorstep, as are the top class facilities of Somerset West, and the beach only 10 minutes away. The estate is home to 73 properties with plot sizes ranging from 500sqm to around 1,500sqm.

Although the completed homes in the estate are generally quite contemporary in design, strict building guidelines encourage eco-friendly design and indigenous gardens with as little impact on the environment as possible, say the agents.

There are still a few vacant plots with prices ranging upwards of around R1.85 million for 1 200sqm. Complete homes range upwards of R3.52 million for a two bedroomed home to around R13.5 million for a 700sqm homestead set on a 1,351sqm plot with a beautiful indigenous garden.

The home incorporates natural textures inspired by the eco-surroundings, yet the design is modern with exposed roof trusses in some rooms, fireplaces in the living areas and under-floor heating and air-conditioning throughout – and a striking Koi pond at the entrance.

The living areas include a formal lounge and dining room, fitted bar, study and a family room, fully equipped wine cellar and a contemporary open-plan kitchen with a separate scullery. The living areas open to a wrap-around terrace with a rim-flow swimming pool, boma, Jacuzzi and pizza oven.

There are five bedroom suites, three of which open to the garden. The main suite, located on the upper level comes with a luxurious en-suite bathroom with a steam shower and opens to a wrap-around deck with panoramic views. The property also includes staff accommodation, a three-car garage and store rooms. All furniture and fittings are optional extras.
